Dr. Susan Hillridge was a serial killer and cannibal who appeared in season one of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Background

"None of us gets out alive. I would think in your job you'd know that. But if we treat our bodies like a temple, we can cheat time."

Hillridge was a nutritionist, treating mostly professional athletes who at one point studied at the Culinary Institute of America.

Not much else is revealed about her personal life other than that she suffered from porphyria, a genetic blood condition that she inherited from her father, which had severe effects on her skin and overall health. She first discovered that she had it after having a minor sunburn.

In order to counteract the disease, she started killing healthy joggers for their organs and cannibalizing them, having whatever dog she had at the time attack them in order to avoid contaminating their blood.

Exactly how many victims she claimed over the years is never specified, though it is mentioned that she had been reported for having aggressive dogs (presumably in connection with non-fatal incidents) in three different states.

Modus Operandi

"You want an empirical experience? There's a fresh shake in my fridge."

Hillridge targeted healthy male joggers who were running in mountainous areas. After having whatever dog she had at the time attack them, she would cut out their organs with surgical precision, taking the most blood-rich organs in the body (livers, hearts, and spleens) with her. Taking the organs home, she would freeze-dry them and ground them into powder and consume them as protein shakes.

Trivia

Her case is referenced in the season 11 episode Blood Moon, as one of the suspects the team was after was also suffering from porphyria.
Her case mirrors the behaviour of serial killer Richard Chase. He was nicknamed The Vampire of Sacramento because he drank his victims' blood and cannibalized their remains due to believing that his blood was turning to sand. His main reason for killing was that he believed he had to do it to stay alive.
