John Hagen was a homicide detective who worked with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
During his tenure, he was a partner to Raymond Caine, who was later "killed" although it was later revealed that Raymond had actually faked his own death and joined up with the feds.
Hagen had emotional and psychological problems.
He had a brief relationship with Calleigh Duquesne in 2003, but she later broke it off after a case.
In 2005 he pulled a crucial piece of evidence from a crime scene. He panicked when Calleigh came over to photograph the scene, so he crept up behind her and put his gun behind her head. Although he didn't mean to hurt her, it allowed him time to escape (she didn't know it was him at that time).
He later shot himself in the Ballistics Lab. Afterwards, Calleigh turned around to walk out of the lab.
This incident prompted her to transfer out of Ballistics. (10-7)
