The working relationship between Catherine Willows and Sara Sidle is one of the oldest on the show.

Sara had issues with authority. As Catherine was the assistant supervisor for the night-shift, their relationship was initially strained. ^{[citation needed]}

At one point, Sara told Catherine that "you let your sexuality cloud your judgment about men". (Nesting Dolls)

Later, their relationship became more positive. When Riley Adams filed a complaint that the newly promoted Catherine was a poor manager and her team was low in morale, Sara suggested to her that she might benefit from having an assistant supervisor work under her. Shortly afterward, Catherine promoted Nick Stokes to her old position as Assistant Supervisor.
