Blood Actually is the sixteenth episode in Season Nine of CSI: NY.
Synopsis[]
On Valentine's Day, Mac and the team tackle three twisted tales of love gone wrong.
Plot[]
It is Valentine's Day in New York and love is in the air, except for a man stabbed with a corkscrew in a hotel room, a man dying from a respiratory failure at home, and a man shot attempting to reconcile with his wife in the middle of the street.
Love For Sale[]
Lindsay and Jo investigate the stabbing victim, Theodore Hart, who wasn't a registered guest. She interrogates Wayne Brown, who registered the room Hart was killed in, sporting bruises and nervous about the murder. He was at the bar when he met a woman named Laura and was waiting in the room for her when Hart arrived and attacked him before Wayne stabbed him with the corkscrew and fled the scene.
In autopsy, Sid tells Lindsay that the actual cause of death was blunt force trauma and there was fragments of a champagne bottle in the wound, leaving Lindsay wondering if there was another person in the room. Jamie informs Jo that Hart was a pimp and that Laura could be a hooker, which turned out to be true when Lindsay arrived with prints from a chocolate strawberry and the champagne bottle match a woman named Laura Palmer, who wanted to comfort Wayne, until Hart showed up and attacked both of them. After Wayne stabbed Hart, who didn't stop, Laura hit the latter with the bottle. Wayne knew she was a hooker and wants them to thank Laura for him.
Love is Blind[]
Danny and Hawkes investigate the diabetic victim, Bernard Chandler, who was found by his wife, Sandra, who he was gonna tell her about something in person. There was a box of chocolates, but Bernard was intending to lose weight because of his Type 1 diabetes, and Sandra has no idea who sent them before leaving to take a call from Bernard's mother.
In autopsy, Bernard had wounds on his chest from collapsing on the glass table, but were shallow and superficial, two pounds of indigested chocolate were found in his stomach which shouldn't be lethal and an injection site where he tried to inject insulin, but cause of death is labelled as acute shock and respiratory failure as a result of severely elevated glucose levels.
Adam discovers Bernard had conversations with a woman named Evelyn Long about arranging a trip together, Hawkes discovers the chocolate from the stomach contents was high in sugar, altered from sugar free ones, and the insulin was swapped for sugar and water, leading them to realize Sandra was responsible all along, believing her husband was having an affair with Evelyn, only to be told by Danny that Evelyn was a travel agent and that they were actually arranging a trip to Europe for himself and Sandra.
In the Name of Love[]
Mac and Flack investigate the shooting victim, Jeremy Howser, who was being investigated for defrauding some clients before discovering he has a gun underneath his body, which they assume is the murder weapon. They assume his wife, Wendy, was the killer as she fled the scene, but she insists she did it out of fear and didn't see the shooter. Jeremy called her after months, claiming he was tired of fighting and wished to settle things with her.
In autopsy, Sid discovered the bullets had fragmented and Jeremy had bruises on his knuckles, suggesting he had been in a fight several hours before his death and finds an ink stain on his wrist.
After reconstructing one of the bullets, Adam, who was about to leave for his Valentine's date, tells Mac the gun he found on Jeremy it isn't even the same calibre and the test on Wendy’s hands was negative, and the ink stain is a stamp mark from a club called Hypodermic so that Jeremy can get back in. The bullet is found to be a match to Thomas Reynolds, a former NYPD officer turned private investigator, who turns himself in, and tells Mac and Flack that Jeremy hired him to run surveillance on Wendy before firing him when there was nothing he could use against her. Thomas then discovered that Jeremy intended to kill Wendy with the gun he had on him and intended to return to Hypodermic to establish his alibi, but had a ticket for Geneva in case it backfires and needed to skip town.
Epilogue[]
With all the cases closed, Mac meets up with Christie at a restaurant with Josh Groban performing on stage, Danny and Lindsey having a quiet moment to talk about their lack of time together and unborn son before being interrupted by Lucy having a nightmare, Ellie meets up with Jo when she stood up on her date so that the latter isn't alone, and Flack and Jamie have a candlelit dinner on a roof.
